Patrick has been drawn to the cinema since early childhood. His oldest memory is a screening of Mel Brooks' Silent Movie. After that his first exposure to genre pictures was Planet of the Apes where the televised behind-the-scenes documentary of the ape makeup had a profound effect. The fascination with making films didn't fully germinate until after Star Wars in the fall of '77 like every other 10 year old in the world with access to any kind of camera. Cinemagic Magazine was huge influnce on him laying the foundation in low-budget cinematic techiniques.

Once in high school, he had the opportunity to attend Skyline Career Development Center in the Cinematography Department where the focus was filmmaking with 16mm equipment. While in the program he completed a 30 second TV spot, several live-action and two animated shorts. From there he went on to complete a certification program at Cedar Valley College as a Sound Recording Engineer.

After almost a decade away from the filmmaking industry, the release of Jurassic Park rekindled an interest in the process of filmmaking. Digital production promised a new way to shoot, edit and deliver the kinds of films Patrick loved and wanted to make. In 2005 he undertook a six-month production project based on an earlier unfinished short from high school.

Completed almost single-handedly on his laptop, escape went on to be showcased at the DragonCon short film festival in Atlanta. That same year he wrote the first draft of the screeplay for Bloodwine and left it sit until the means for production presented themselves.
